You might be interested to know that in 1969 a man named J. Fleming discovered a arch that appears to be a gate beneath the sealed Eastern Gate. This site talks about it with a picture. There is barely any information about this discovery and finding the article by J. Fleming "The undiscovered gate beneath Jerusalem's Golden Gate" that was published in Biblical Archeology Review in 1983 has been impossible for me to find so far. It is strange that such a huge discovery would be kept quiet for so long. Here is a site you might find interesting http://www.excel.net/~hoy/eastgate.html with a photo taken by J. Fleming of the buried arch. Supposedly he was exploring around the Golden Gate the day after a heavy rain and the ground collapsed around him. He was able to snap a few photos but unfortunately it site was later covered by cement and a fence put around it. God Bless You
